The Whole Body PUVA Chamber design addresses the need for enhanced efficiency, usability, and maintainability in treating Psoriasis, Vitiligo, Lichen planus, and other similar conditions. The inspiration behind this design was to create a smart and user-friendly system that not only guides patients on dosage but also records their data. The triangular shape of the chamber reduces manufacturing costs and improves overall usability and space requirements. Additionally, patient safety and comfort were prioritized, ensuring that the cost of the machine generates value through usability and empathic design.
What sets the Whole Body PUVA Chamber apart is its triangular aesthetic curve shape, which provides homogeneous irradiation and shorter treatment times. This design feature also saves on manufacturing costs and space. The chamber is equipped with an HMI microprocessor-based control unit that includes built-in programs for different dosages and guides. It also features a patient dosage history recorder and an inbuilt Dosimeter for monitoring and controlling irradiation time. The high-quality mirror-type reflector ensures maximum irradiation, and the chamber can provide UVA and NBUVA therapy in different combinations. The design is easy to maintain and transport, making it highly practical for medical facilities.
The realization of the Whole Body PUVA Chamber involves laser cutting, CNC sheet metal forming processes, and standard fabrication techniques. The main body is made of MS sheet with MS L-section, and large radius banding of the sheet metal allows for the triangular shape. The HMI microprocessor-based control system integrates smart electronics and logical automation to monitor and control dosage accurately. The chamber is equipped with UVA and NBUVB tubes as per medical standards, and the mirror-type reflectors ensure maximum irradiation. The modular design includes a fully insulated circuit base for added safety.
Technical specifications of the Whole Body PUVA Chamber include an HMI-based control system with built-in programs and a microprocessor-based digital timer for accuracy. It also features an independent UVA-NBUVB Hour Meter, individual MCB switches for separate panels, spike guard protection, and MCBs for maximum patient safety. The operating voltage is A.C-230v/50Hz, with a power consumption of 6 KVA. The chamber is equipped with 27 lamps and has a compact design that requires less space. Patient accident protection and history recording are also integrated into the design. The dimensions of the chamber are 1965mm x 1000mm x 1000mm (H x W x D).
The Whole Body PUVA Chamber is operated by having the patient stand in the cabinet, dressed only in underpants for whole-body exposure. The chamber is equipped with 27 UVA/NBUVB tubes, and the integrated Dosimeter calculates the irradiation time. The treatment is monitored and controlled by the HMI microprocessor-based controller, and a fan on top ensures proper ventilation.
The Whole Body PUVA Chamber was designed over a period of 12 months, from concept to final product. The design process took place in Rajkot, India, while the manufacturing was done in Ahmedabad, India. Extensive research was conducted to ensure the triangular shape provided homogeneous irradiation, reducing treatment time. The design also focused on optimizing cost, improving user experience, and enhancing maintainability and transportability.
The Whole Body PUVA Chamber has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate exceptional expertise, innovation, and technical characteristics. The Whole Body PUVA Chamber stands out for its remarkable level of excellence, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
